Now, 3 DIY essential oil recipes:
1. My DIY house cleaning recipe with essential oils
Cleaning the house can be tiring and to be honest I really don’t like the idea of using chemicals. This was especially true a few years ago when I had two young children following me around wanting to help, so I decided to make my own cleaning recipe with essential oils. I was pleasantly surprised to find that after a few hours of cleaning with this blend I had more energy than when I started and the house smelled fantastic! Now that my kids are older I have no problem at all in getting my kids to use this blend when cleaning their rooms. This blend is antibacterial, antimicrobial and the combination of oils smell great together – much better than that chemical smell you get after cleaning the house with store bought products!
Ingredients:
- 35 drops of lemon
- 26 drops of lavender
- 18 drops of eucalyptus
- 20 drops of tea tree
- 10 drops of peppermint
- 50 drops of solubiliser or 30 ml vodka
- 200ml of filtered water
Instructions: Mix all together in a bottle and use as needed

2. My DIY deodorant recipe with essential oils
Many years ago I found that using commercial deodorants were causing me to have a dull pain in the glands under my arm pit. This concerned me due to all the media attention with regard to breast cancer coupled with the fact that my grandmother has had both breasts removed. At the time I tried different natural deodorants but found none of them really gave me the lasting power for the day so I came up with this recipe. I have now used this for over 5 years and love it. Recently my 10 year old daughter went on camp and all the kids were told they had to bring deodorant. There was no way I was going to buy her a commercial product so I made her this. Now I have orders for this for many of her school friends and a request to make it more male friendly for some of the young lads!
Ingredients:
- 60ml of filtered water
- 1 tsp bicarb soda
- 5 drops of lavender
- 4 drops of lime
- 2 drops of ylang ylang
- 1 drop of clove
- 1 drop of geranium
- 1 drop of tea tree
Instructions: Mix all together and you can use as a spray

3. My diffuser blend to freshen the house
Most days I am diffusing some sort of blend in my diffuser and I have bought many blends which I love, but I came across this blend many years ago when I was making soap and absolutely loved the freshness of it. On a windy day I love opening all the windows to freshen the house while I also diffuse this blend. Just be mindful that spearmint is quite a strong fragrance so you can add a few more drops of the lime. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
- 2 drops spearmint
- 2 drops lime
- 2 drops lemongrass
Instructions: Mix all together and you can use as a spray
