These purpose built trails allow you to get a glimpse of previously uncharted territory whilst keeping fit and getting your adrenaline pumping. Whether you’ve got the mtb bug and you want to start your cycling career or you’re an old pro keep reading to find out which trails you should visit this summer for an awesome ride.

Buxton Mountain Bike Path

Situated in the beautiful Black Range State Forest this trail is approximately 20 kilometres long with different loop options that span different distances. This means that you can either push yourself and take on a challenge or enjoy a more gentle ride. There’s subtle climbs and cruising descents to keep riders interested during their loop and it’s suitable for everyone regardless of your mtb credentials. One thing to remember if you decide to visit this instagram worthy location, all loops are ridden in one direction so keep that in mind.


Explore all the hard to reach nooks and crannies on two wheels to make the most of this stunning National Park. There’s a path for all riders here with professional mountain bikers and families sharing the space for breathtaking rides. You’ll see lavender farms, cellar doors and olive groves as you rush through man made mountain bike trails. If you’re new to cycling then you can hire bikes to give you a taste of the good life or if you’ve been mountain biking for a while then you’ll be able to find a trail that will challenge and excite.

High Country

If you’re a seasoned mountain biker then the high country should be your next stop. It’s packed with steep hills, voluptuous valleys and grand mountains that make for a challenging and momentous ride. Half of Victoria’s formalised mountain bike trails are situated here hidden amongst green shrubbery and beautiful scenery. If you’re a little lacking on the stamina front then don’t worry. There’s shuttle services that give you a helping hand to the top so you can make the most of the shred on the way down. If you’re visiting the high country one thing is for sure, you’ll run out of steam before you run out of trails to explore.

Walhalla Goldfields Rail Trail

Why experience this trail by train when you can explore on two wheels and really get to grips with nature. Spanning 7 kilometres one way this mountain bikers paradise is ideal for the shred all year round. It’s been given a grade two, which means you’ll need some experience and an adequate level of fitness to take on this breathtaking trail which will open the door to magnificent rain forests and the fast moving waters of the Thompson river. Just a small warning, the terrain can become slippery after rain, in which case only mountain bikes and hybrids are recommended.

Erica Mountain Bike Park

This park is made up of two sets of trails that are delicately placed either side of the highway that runs through the town of Erica. There’s 13 kilometers of tough single track to shred and enjoy whilst taking in your special surroundings. The rough dirt track will challenge experienced riders so be sure to prepare and plan before you load up the car and head to this bikers paradise.
