Whether you believe in their power or not crystals are a gift from the universe. Find out which crystals you need in your life and allow them to support a happier you.
I’ve loved crystals for as long as I remember and have been working with them for many years. There’s not a day that goes by where I am not wearing a crystal and I have learned over the years that intention plays a big part in how well crystals influence your life.
Here are a few of my favourite crystals and how they can help.
This stone can vary in colour from pale purples to the deepest aubergine or have swirls of different purple hues throughout a piece. Amethyst helps us connect with the divine and is therefore this is a stone that should be used to support your spiritual endeavours. It’s also a great stone to hold during meditation or if you want to remember your dreams. Recently I held an Amethyst in my hands, ask the stone to help me remember my dreams and then placed it under my pillow. For the next 3 nights my dreams were vivid and remembered. I actually had to take the crystal out so that I could have a restful night’s sleep!
2. Rose Quartz
This stone can also vary in colour from pale pink to a beautiful deep pink. It is a stone used for love and can be programmed for both romantic love or for personal self-love. Use this stone when focusing on passion, healing the heart and heart energies. It can also help to soothe and calm your energies, which can also make it a great stone for kids. I tend to be drawn to this stone when I need to calm my energy down after a whirlwind of activity.
This stone can come in a variety of colours including white, yellow, orange, blue and the reason I love it so much is the way it feels. Whereas the previous 2 stones are quite hard, calcite has a really soft feel to it. It is a great stone for increasing and amplifying energy. It is also great for reducing stress, just run your hands over the smooth edges of a Calcite stone and see how wonderfully it works.
This stone has a heavy, coolness feel to it and is a shiny dark grey in colour. It is a great stone to use for grounding and balancing your energies, and therefore helps with memory, deep thought and higher learning. We need to be present and grounded when we learn, so hematite is great to have around while studying. It also helps with self-confidence and will power.
5. Rainbow Obsidian
Obsidian is natural volcanic glass and my favourite of the Obsidians is Rainbow Obsidian. If the stone has been cut correctly you can see different colours through the piece. The stone itself is very protective and is excellent for removing negative energies, so one to keep on you when you’re feeling angry, stressed, sad, hurt or unhappy. My favourite piece in my personal collection is a heart shaped stone on a leather strap which I wore almost every day when I was suffering from depression and felt like I needed protection. It helped me get through each day, protecting from the energies of those around me.
This stone has beautiful flashes of golden light and waves of the deepest blue mixed together. Each piece will have a different mix of yellowish browns and blues. This stone is best used for discharging old negative energies and emotions, clearing the aura and helping to bring a sense of calmness back into your life.
Labradorite is one of my new favourites, having recently purchased a ring that has it as the stone, I now wear it most days. It is a stone of magic used by shamans, diviners and healers for centuries. It helps awaken your own awareness of inner spirit, intuition and psychic abilities. If you are looking at developing your own sixth sense, this is the stone for you!
Citrine is a beautiful yellow, orange colour and is an uplifting and happy stone. It helps bring positive energy into your life, boost self-esteem and possibly even increase your ability to manifest money. It promotes motivation, activates creativity and encourages self-expression. If you need a nudge to get something done, give citrine a go!
Malachite has been a favourite of mine for years. It is a swirl of different shades of green and is a great protective stone that helps to create a strong barrier around you energetically. It’s a fantastic stone for intuition, emotional healing and helps to bring positive transformations into your life.
Moonstone is generally a creamy, yellow colour. It is a stone for inner growth and strength. Moonstone is associated with the moon and is therefore quite closely linked with emotions. It has a stabilising effect on emotions, providing calmness and stability. It can also help with hormones and balancing nature’s rhythms.
How to use crystals to balance your thoughts, energies and emotions
To bring the energy of the crystal into your aura you simple need to have it on or around your body. You may choose to wear it as jewellery, or if you have a loose piece you want to use, you can place it in your pocket or even your bra (just remember when you undress in the evening as it will fall out on the floor… this has happened to me on quite a few occasions!)
So what next?
The best way to start working with crystals is to go to a crystal shop and see what you are drawn to. Look around and have a feel of the different types. They not only vary in colour, but they also vary in shape, texture, size and cost. Firstly, feel the crystal in your hands. See how you feel when you are holding it. Does it feel like it’s buzzing or energising. Do you like the feeling of the crystal or do you immediately want to put it back? Try to think of a time when you would like to use the crystal and see if that changes your feeling. For instance you may be drawn to the deep purple of Amethyst and love the feeling of it when you hold it in your hand, but when you think of using it for mental energy at work it may seem to lose it power. On the other hand if you feel you would like to use it in your spiritual practice it may feel like its vibrating.
Once you’ve bought your favourite crystals, wear them or pop them in your pocket for a day and see the difference they can make in your life. Remember, everyone is different so what works for your friend, may not work for you in the same way.
Crystals not only emit energy but also take it in, so they need to be cleansed and recharged regularly
A few ways to cleanse a crystal include:
- Place it under running water (please be mindful that some crystals will disintegrate under running water so please check first)
- Visualise white light sweeping through the crystal
- Place it in soil overnight
- Placing a crystal under a full moon can also cleanse it as well as recharge it.
