8 Inspiring Quotes For Anyone Who Wants To Be Happy

I love the way certain inspirational quotes resonate with you and can invoke an emotion or feeling.

As the saying goes, true happiness starts from within, so here I’m sharing some of my all-time favourite happiness quotes and sayings. I hope reading these ignites your inner spark and empowers your true happiness to shine through.

1. “Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change.” – Wayne Dyer

I love all things Wayne Dyer but the reason I especially love this one is that when I was going through my lowest times I needed to keep reminding myself that I needed to look at the world around me differently.  This quote reflects a big part of my own journey to happiness. This took time to do, but with each small change I started to see that everything was not necessarily about me and not everything everyone else did had anything to do with me.  In fact, most other people were working through their own stuff.

2. “You can’t start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading the last one”  – Unknown

This is a great reminder to leave the past in the past.  We need to learn from what has happened but we don’t need to keep reliving it.  If you keep reliving something, your body is constantly bombarded with the same negative emotions.  Turn the page and look forward to the next chapter of your life.

3. “Families are like branches on a tree.  We grow in different directions yet our roots remain as one.” – Unknown.

I actually first saw this quote when I was at a family members house.  It got me thinking about just how different I am from my family and how my life has taken a totally different path.  You see, my brothers both work with my dad in the building industry.  I on the other hand first went into office work, and now work as a healer and writer.  It has helped me to realise that even though we are all different, and that life has different lessons and adventures for us, we still have the same foundations and soulful connections.

4. “Conflict cannot survive without your participation” – Wayne Dwyer

So many of us want to live happy, peaceful lives.  However we are still intent on getting involved with the drama around us.  Whether it’s having an opinion about something or feeling entitled to feel a certain way and then voice that opinion, it all keeps us in drama mode.  To really find peace in life we need to step away from drama and conflict.  See things for what they really are.  Do you really need to be involved or would you feel better staying clear of it.  I guarantee that the more you can remove yourself from drama, the happier and more peaceful your life will become.

5. “We accept the love we think we deserve.” – Stephen Chbosky

There are so many quotes about happiness and love, but I love the simplicity of this one. The biggest problem I see with a lot of my clients is that they don’t really love themselves.  Loving ourselves means doing things for our best interest.  This includes eating healthy, exercising, putting in boundaries, and spending time with people that we feel good around.  If we can’t find the love within ourselves how can we feel the love from someone else?  We need to know love to feel it and this starts within ourselves.

6. “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” – Arthur C. Clark

I love this!  I mean I really love this!  Magic is everywhere but magic is only science that we are yet to understand.  This doesn’t mean that magic doesn’t exist. It just means that we don’t have to understanding scientifically everything around us.  Sometimes we just need to accept and be thankful for the magic of – and in – life.

7. “The body heals with play, the mind heals with laughter and the spirit heals with joy” – Proverb

I think this is one of the top happy quotes about life because we are not just our body, or our mind, or our soul.  We are a sum of all three and as such, all three aspects of us need to be healed and nurtured.

Play in life.  Go to the gym or to the park or play a sport.  Have fun while your body benefits from exercise.  Watch or read something funny or have a great night with friends having a good old belly laugh.  And find what makes your heart sing.  What your soul needs to find joy.

8. “Tell me and I’ll forget. Show me and I may remember. Involve me and I learn.” – Benjamin Franklin

I actually find this true in my own life.  I have read many books over the years and attended many workshops but I really don’t learn something until I actually do it.  Life is about doing, not about being told what to do. To be truly happy, you need to get out into life and actually do what you have learned and love.  It doesn’t matter if you are not perfect because it’s not perfection that is important, but the integration and learning. That journey is where happiness resides.

  1. Thanks for sharing these Carolyn. I read a quote this morning that resonated with me and I’m sure you could relate to too :). It also speaks to what you said about putting things into action and being about integration rather than perfection. The quote is by Seth Godin: “Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you should set up a life you don’t need to escape from”. Carly x

  2. Absolutely love all these quotes (especially “Families are like branches on a tree. We grow in different directions yet our roots remain as one.”) What a beautiful post to read to start the week! x

  3. Oh, “Conflict cannot survive without your participation” is a goodie. So powerful in meaning. Without your participation, or not giving any energy to it, it doesn’t exist in your life. I also love learning new things and find that makes me happy too :-).

  4. “Leave the past in the past” – I can’ t agree more Carolyn, this is an essential. Every time we mull over things in the past it pulls us out of the present moment, where true happiness exists.

    1. Hi Jess,
Absolutely! When we continue to think about the past, we can’t really enjoy the present which is where happiness lives 🙂

  5. Firstly, thank you for such a wonderful post and some of these quotes definitely resonate with me. It is inspiring words that really make a difference, just reading them sometimes gives a sense of happiness and understanding.
